One of the core goals of Flovv has always been to support far more than just the materials we currently offer. From the beginning, our vision has been to build a flexible desktop casting platform that can continue expanding its capabilities through software and ongoing validation.
Over the past several weeks, we've been developing a major firmware update that introduces more advanced control algorithms and significantly expands the number of settings available for different material systems. Alongside the firmware, we're also releasing a redesigned touchscreen interface with advanced material controls, giving users greater flexibility when working with a wider variety of two-part materials.
Every resin system behaves differently. Viscosity, mix ratio, reaction speed, pot life, and material chemistry all influence how a system performs. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, the new software provides additional tuning parameters that allow the machine to be optimized for many more material types.
As always, software cannot overcome the fundamental physical limitations of the hardware or the materials themselves. However, within those physical limits, our goal is to make Flovv as accommodating and adaptable as possible through continued firmware development, testing, and validation.
This is an area where we're breaking new ground. There isn't another desktop system in this price range that we can simply copy or benchmark against, so many of these solutions are being developed through engineering, testing, and iteration. Using premium industrial components could simplify certain engineering challenges, but it would also significantly increase the cost of the machine. From the beginning, we've chosen to balance performance, affordability, and accessibility so that Flovv remains a practical desktop system while continuing to improve over time.
Firmware & touchscreen transition
Because the new firmware depends on features built into the updated touchscreen software, both components must be updated together.
During this transition period, some units will continue shipping with the current firmware and touchscreen software while we complete final validation of the new release. Once the new version is ready, it will be available as a free download for all users.
Installing the new firmware will require updating the touchscreen first using a microSD card. After the touchscreen update is complete, you'll be able to install the matching firmware. We'll provide clear, step-by-step instructions, and the update process only needs to be completed once. Future firmware releases will then be able to take advantage of the new touchscreen capabilities.
Looking ahead, we'll continue validating additional materials and publishing recommended settings as testing is completed. Not every material will be compatible, and some applications will always be limited by the physical characteristics of the hardware, but we expect the machine's capabilities to continue growing as the software evolves.
We're also actively developing future hardware revisions and higher-performance models that will extend the operating range even further. At the same time, we're committed to continuing firmware development and material support for the current generation of Flovv whenever practical.
As always, thank you for your continued support, patience, and feedback throughout this Kickstarter journey. Your testing, ideas, and real-world experience are helping shape a platform that continues to improve long after the first units leave our workshop.
